HOW BIG IS Romy Madley Croft ON THE NET?

Romy reaches audiences through both The xx’s large international fanbase and her solo dance-pop career. Mid Air earned critical acclaim and club support, while her songwriting credits for other pop artists give her influence that extends beyond recordings released under her own name.

HOW DID Romy Madley Croft become famous?

Romy formed The xx with school friends and became internationally known after the band’s self-titled debut won widespread acclaim. The group later won the Mercury Prize for Coexist-era recognition surrounding their early success, while Romy developed songwriting work for other artists before releasing her own solo dance material.

BEFORE THE FAME

Growing up in London, Romy attended Elliott School, where she met future bandmates. Music became especially important during a childhood marked by the loss of both parents, and close friendships eventually developed into the creative partnership behind The xx.

CLOSE WITH (ASSOCIATED);

Romy’s defining band relationships are with Oliver Sim and Jamie xx in The xx. Outside the group she has written with major pop artists including Dua Lipa, while her solo work has involved dance producers who helped shape the sound of Mid Air.

Personal LIFE and Relationship

Romy is openly queer and married photographer and filmmaker Vic Lentaigne. Queer love, chosen family, grief, intimacy, and the freedom of dance floors are central themes in her solo work, giving Mid Air a personal emotional framework without abandoning the restraint associated with The xx.
