HOW DID Katy Perry become famous?
Katy’s mainstream breakthrough arrived with 2008’s One of the Boys and the single I Kissed a Girl. Teenage Dream then produced a historic run of No. 1 singles and turned her into a global pop star. Later eras added Super Bowl performance history, American Idol judging, Las Vegas residency work, and worldwide touring.
BEFORE THE FAME
Raised in a strict Pentecostal household in California, Katheryn Hudson first pursued Christian music and released a gospel album under her birth name. After that project failed commercially, she relocated her musical identity toward pop and adopted the name Katy Perry to avoid confusion with actress Kate Hudson.
